It’s our 20th birthday this year! Our store was established in 1999 as Sentient Being with a theme of meaningful gifts, lifestyle and decorations for a beautiful life. After splitting with the Wellness Centre Nicole and Lauren, Mother and Daughter, took over the business in 2017. Re-naming the store The Little Things in Life.
This past year has been a very exciting year for us relocating the store to a bigger, brighter and better space on Main Road Eltham. With this expansion we have been able to increase our ranges to include furniture, soft furnishings, bedding, baby products, skincare and more.
Our friends at Urban Rituelle have also turned 20 this year. We had a quick q&a with Urban Rituelle to answer all their questions about our store, our passion and why we love our Urban Rituelle products.
Q: You have a beautiful store with some incredible displays! What are your styling tips for creating a beautiful display, whether that be in-store or at home?
Nicole & Lauren: We love to use texture in our styling. You can make statement using different textures and adapt to the seasons by layering natural fabrics and textures.
At home I love to incorporate special pieces that have either been gifted to me or I have collected on my travels. Memories last forever.
Q: You source a large variety of ethically made, natural & cruelty free products from Australia & across the globe. Where did your passion for ethical and natural products stem from?
Nicole & Lauren: We are influenced by many factors. The environment we live each day is a beautiful suburb that still maintains its rural aspect. We enjoy being able to see and hear wildlife on a daily basis and enjoy the beautiful colours of the Australian bush in our back yard. Mother nature’s beauty is very grounding. We also have a long family history of running small businesses. I am passionate about supporting Australian made and am inspired when I see other small business create products that respect our environment, that become either rituals in our daily life like skincare and handmade perfumes to pieces for your home that you can treasure and pass down to future generations.
Q: What mantra does your team live by to keep you motivated?
Nicole & Lauren: Always do better than yesterday.
Q: What self-care rituals do you swear by to relax and unwind when you’re not at the store?
Nicole & Lauren: Create a sanctuary to indulge in “me time” at least once a week. I indulge in a face mask, pot of tea & immerse myself in the scent of a favourite candle, usually the Alchemy White Lotus, Gernium Leaf and Bergamot.
Q: What is your favourite Urban Rituelle product and why?
Nicole & Lauren: Hand cream from the Alchemy range, both scents are amazing. Always in my handbag.
